Nijazi was not a big city. It was not a jewel of culture, drawing in a lot of tourists. It was just a simple desert town huddled around one of the precious water sources of the Ukame Desert. Nijazi was a day's easy journey from the foothills of the Miamba Mountains, a fact that made sure that they had a lot of travelers. The predominant race of the residents was Nyoka, but they had a clan of Daojin settle nearby a few generations ago, which brought in an ever-increasing number of green faces.

Nijazi was small enough that crime didn't happen outside of a rowdy night at the local tavern. Enough of the residents were comfortable with their weapons that they didn't have a town guard. The Order of Ozain had a House in the center of town. Between the organized magic of the members and the armed populace, the worse thing they had to worry about was weevils infesting the gardens.

To say that the attack caught them completely unprepared would have been a gross understatement.

The darkness swept over the town just an hour before dawn. It went unnoticed, a silent extension of predawn shadows. The heralding explosions destroyed most of the outlaying buildings. Most were killed in their homes as they prepared for the day. The rest fled to the safe haven of the Order House whose masters summoned powerful wards. As the day carried on, the sky grew darker, but the burning buildings cast plenty of light to see one's death come closer and for refugees to find their way to the shimmering shield of the Order.

The streets of Nijazi was littered with rubble and the frequent corpse, usually piled together beside walls as if they were stacked for kindling of the fires that raged. Red-skinned fiends patrolled the bloodstained streets looking for more victims while black-skinned devils helped the fires spread their touch. The occasional succubus or imp could be seen flying across the smoke-filled sky.

Fenix Wesdracke almost walked into the group of fiends that were moving the broken remains of what appeared to be Nyoka from the surrounding area into a miraculously untouched neighborhood. He rounded a corner, lost amidst the unfamiliar and seemingly labyrinthine layout of the town, and there they were. Luckily, they all either had their backs to him or had their views blocked by other fiends. That gave him the barest moment he needed to count them, revealing twelve that he could see easily.

As Fenix slowly approached he knew his encounter with these seemingly trans-dimensional beings was inevitable. He took his hands from his pockets and pulled down his hood to reveal his flaming crimson hair. Relieving his tightly wrapped hands of the protective runic leather straps, he clenched his fists tightly releasing the eager energies trapped within. He stopped several feet behind them, he closed his eyes as he popped his neck and cracked his knuckles attempting to make his presence aware. He slowly breathed out, letting out a few small plumes of flame and a thin stream of steam.

"Their cries will not go unanswered. Your atrocious actions will be met by my ferocious retribution."

The pulsing magic coming from the elemental attracted the attention of the closest fiend, causing him to turn to look in Fenix's direction. An evil grin twisted the demon's face into a parody of happiness. He slapped his buddy who raised the alarm with a shouted exclamation. A few of them came closer, popping their own knuckles and flexing muscles. The rumble from their growls competed with the crackle of the nearby burning buildings. One female fiend licked her lips as if imagining dinning on Fenix's heated flesh.

To the east, beyond the fiends and beyond the buildings on the other side of the plaza, the Order House's shimmering blue wards glowed. Its comfort was beyond his reach.

Rotation his shoulder cuffs and stretching his neck, Fenix raised his fists to a standing standard boxing stance leading with the left side of his body. Lunging forward to the nearest Fiend he let a series of devastating punches to the body leading up to a slow and heavy haymaker to the head. Ducking and weaving, Fenix lowered his stance to pivot and swing around his first target to meet the next with an equally fierce combination. Going from one opponent to the next, Fenix showed absolutely no mercy to these abominations.

The first six fiends were dead in a fiery blaze of glory. Their bodies crumbled into dark soot as they returned to their home plane. Like frightened crows, the remaining fiends took to the air. All except one, who moved quickly across the distance separating her and the elemental.

"Sa'mael!" she called out. Her eyes burned as they focused on Fenix. Her face, a parody of beauty, twisted with hate. "You will pay for this!"

The others fell, leaving only two behind. These two converged upon the elemental and attack!
