7. Stolen Treasures (Southan)

Fifth bell sounded through the halls of the Pathos House of the Order of Ozain, announcing to all and sundry that it was time to gather for the evening meal. All over the giant mansion, people began to drift towards the large dining hall of the House. The children ran and skipped in from the yard outside and the courtyard garden. Their minders kept them within acceptable levels, but did little to curb the kids' eagerness. Acolytes and journeymen, finally freed from their lessons, left the training rooms in a hurry. The masters who had been teaching those lessons lingered in their areas, straighten messes. Dinner wasn't for another half an hour, so there was no need to rush.

Dinner was usually a quiet affair, but the gathering time was usually chaotic. One of the masters would usually exhibit his or her skill with their chosen weapons. That's what Kazuko had been doing before Yama's violent entrance. It was believed that this showing off of skill would encourage acolytes who were still undecided on their weapons to choose one.

Tonight was Master Lania's turn.

Targets had be set up at the far end of the Hall, directly under the head table. Lania was a hard woman with a cold expression. She had reached master status not long after Pathos the city was founded. It was rumored even that she had been the Pathos House's first Mother. Younsters learned quickly not to ask if it were true. She was also the best bower that the Order had.

The group arrived just in time to see a young acolyte escorting the House's most recent guest into the Hall. He had been found after the storm had passed in a dingy in the middle of Pathos' sea harbor. That was a few days ago now.

Yama, resting up against the wall with whetstone in hand, sharpening his claws and occasionly his fangs, looks around the room, thinking to himself, 'SSSSome weird night, that'ssssss for sssure.'

Watches as Lania gets set up for her weapon demonstration, seeing the targets get set up at distance. 'This should be interesting to see... i saw her in action with Ryzsard when she was firing off her shots at his shadows.'

As he looks around for a seating for him and Misami, seeing one near center room, "Do you think this would be a decent place to watch the show Misami?"

Misami nodded and followed her lover to the seats, ironically the place that was becoming their usual seats. It afforded not only a good view of the exhibition, but was close to where Misami would have been sitting had she been alone. It was the journeymen table nearest the acolytes.

It was also where Ryszard, the lucky acolyte who got escort duty, was leading his charge.



"Sister Misami," Ryszard stated formally, bowing slightly from the shoulders. The formality looked a bit odd on the gangly teen. It was also a contrast to the carefree...well, relatively carefree attitude of over an hour ago. "Brother Nikael suggested I bring this House's newest guest to sit with you. Is that okay?" he finished nervously. His right hand crept up to rub the back of his neck.

"Of course, it's fine, Ryszard," Misami replied. She turned towards the man that was with the boy. "Hi, I'm Journeyman Misami. This is Shiki." She gestured towards the wolf demon beside her. "How are you this evening?"

The tall dark haired man who seems approachable but guarded sees the beautiful nekomimi before him, he takes her hand then bows down and kisses it. "I am having a wonderful day now my lady" he says. He pulls the chair out helping the lady take her seat. Taking a seat next to the lady he thinks 'I wonder what this kitten is doing with the dog.' "My name is Kintaro my lady" he says.

Yama, looking over towards Misami and Shiki, seeing what happened, just shakes his head and thinks to himself, 'That nekomimi'ssssss livesssss are gonna run out very sssshortly if sssshiki hassss anything to sssay about it.'

Watching in shock as the pure bravery of the newcomer giving Misami a little too friendly treatment on top of kissing her hand... 'If it wasn't for the fact of this guy being new here... and being under Sera's house rules of no violence, this guy would be dead the moment he did that.'

Giving off a low growl in the direction of the newcomer Kintaro, as a warning to him to back off. Visibly arcing bolts of green energy flowing from his hands.

As he takes his seat next to Misami he begins watching the demonstration preparations, "So Misami do you know how much training this Master Lania has taken to get this good with her bow, she did have a good bit of fun with Ryzsard when i was helping train him."

As the newcomer began to sit down next to misami, he formed a shadow wolf to sit between them,
fully formed the wolf glared at the newcomer with an intention of barring him from trying anything with Misami.

Toatally ignoring the wolf Kintaro takes the next seat down and turns to Misami, "do these kinds of demonstrations happen all the time?"

"Oh, from time to time," Misami answered, trying not to grin at the man's antics. She wasn't really experienced with flirtation. She had met Shiki shortly after leaving her Order House as a Journeyman. They had become a couple shortly after that. Not many men were brave enough to keep trying in the face of Shiki's disapproval. It all came together to mean the little nekomimi healer was inexperienced in rebuffing people. After all, Shiki sewed that up nicely for her. "He's very protective." Misami smiled at the wolf demon in question, love and mirth dancing in her mismatched eyes.

"I think I'll just..." Rys said, gesturing with his thumbs in the direction of the table that he normal sat at. He backed away from the shadows beginning to gather around Shiki. The teen knew from experience that those shades were fast. Lania moved from showing off her accuracy to demostrating how her bow doubled as a staff--without any detriment to that accuracy.

Yama, still watching the amusing scene unfold, shakes his head, 'Thisssss guy jussssst can't take a hint.'

Seeing that Kintaro still wasnt much affected by the interruption of the shadow wolf between them, so seeing how he had some nerve left he began to form a full shadow next to the wolf form.

'Well if he doesn't get the idea from this or from misami explaining... this should help clarify it to him.'

Continuing the watching of the demonstration of the bow master, "Well that is interesting as to how she changed up the ability from shooting it to using it as a staff version... an interesting tactic."

As he looks over to the direction of misami, he palms the amulet "Do you have any idea as to what Daxus meant to trying this outside..."

Leaning back in the chair and crossing his legs Kintaro looks at wolf demon and says "you know you can get rid of those little toys of yours, i'm just having a conversation with the lady". "If I came on too strong I apologize, I been resting in my room for a few days now."

"Oh, it's okay. No harm done, right?" Misami looked at Shiki with an amused grin on her face. "Right, love?"

As he hears Kintaro apologize for his oncomings, and misami dismissing them, he releases the shadow forms that were between them vanishing into the ground.

"That's right, no harm..." as he looks into her eyes he wraps his arm around her giving a comforting hug.

As the show became more vivid as how Lania continued to switch between using her bow for range and switching to staff styles, he pointed out to Misami how fluid the movements became, "Seems like shes practiced this routine alot for her demonstration."

"She would have had to perform it for the elders of the Silvestri," Misami informed, slipping into teacher mode. "Like your amulet, that way of using a bow comes from one of the tribes of elves in the Adroanzi Forest. It's highly prized, but difficult to learn. They rarely teach it to outsiders. She must have lived with them for a while in order to learn."

With a flourish, the archer jumped high into the air, spinning as she did so. Without hesistating, she fired a shot as soon as her feet returned to the ground. The arrow whistled through the air. It hit the target dead center, splitting in half the arrow already there.

Applauds rang through the room as the master bowed to her audience. Mother Sera was just taking her seat at the middle of the head table. Daxus had accompanied her into the room during the show and had a seat next to the regal woman who was in charge of this Order House. The gaze of the blind goblin lingered on the small group of guests before moving around the room, almost as if he were looking for some thing.

Yama, seeing Shiki dismiss his shadows, thinks to himself, 'Well, looksssss like he'sssss not gonna rip him into ssshredsss after all, guesssss Missssami had him call it off.' Yama then turns to watch the weapon demonstration, and sees Daxus looking for something, Yama thinks to himself, attempting to give him a hand, 'What's wrong Daxus?'

Immediately that non-gaze of Daxus' recentered on the Nyoka. The look on his face was appraising. Slowly, the blue-skinned man tilted his head to the side so similar to a hawk that Lizzy used to own it was a bit unnerving. Then a richly-toned voice whispered in Yama's mind.

'Your friend, the sniper,' Daxus returned. 'She is not with you and I cannot locate her in the Hall.'

Looking around slowly, Yama realizes that he hadn't seen Terry in quite a while either. 'That'sssss ssstrange, I had'nt sssseen her sssince we got back.' Yama thinks to himself.

'Yes, I haven't seen her lately either. I usually dismiss it as my being to busy with young Maegan to have much time to notice people... You intrigue me, young Nyokan. Not many outside of my students speak to me this way.' Yama could feel the surprised smile more than he could see it crossing the goblin's face. 'She was beautiful, by the way. You were, indeed, a lucky man to have won her hand.'

Yama thinks for a moment, and then thinks, 'If it'sssss who i think your refering to, then there might posssse a problem, sssshe killed my love, and lately I've been sssseeing her assss of late, I think ssshe'sss trying to tell me sssomething.'

Watching as the demonstration ended and everyone began to sit down for the evening meal, he thought something seemed out of place... taking a closer look around as everyone sat down with there being an empty chair at the table Yama was sitting at he realized what it was.

Looking to Misami with a concerned look, "It seems that Terry isnt here... do ya think something could be wrong, its not like her to miss a meal especially a dinner."

"She's acting as Kazuko's guard tonight," the small healer informed off-handedly. Shiki couldn't quite remember when Misami could have found out this information. He had been with her most of the day. Maybe Mother Sera had told her during that meeting the two had had before lunch. The Mother did her best to only speak with his girlfriend behind closed doors it seemed, but considering Misami's adnormal opinion on a few different topics, maybe that was a good thing.



'I would imagine the Lady Lizzet--your Lizzy, would have much to say to you, especially about little Miss Kazuko....if her thoughts are anything to go by, the two must have warred something fierce over you. Now why do you think that would be?'

Up at the head table, Daxus leaned back in his chair and steepled his fingers in front of his face as an acolyte placed a plate before him. All around the room food was being served as it was every night. Conversation between people was not uncommon either. Children laughed in their section. The acolytes jostled each other in theirs. The journeymen discussed lessons. One conversation, kept silent, was barely noticed.

Turning to the couple he asks "excuse me, but what type of things do people learn here".

Looking in Kintaro's direction, "They teach multiple things here, they have a training facility for all types of practices. Either for magical abilities to combat just like you saw with the demonstration of Lania and her use of the bow and her adaptability with it."

Pointing out Ryzsard sitting at the other table, "In his case they teach the ability to heal and in cases resurrection... but that's a rare talent."

Giving a notion over to Daxus, knowing that he would know Shiki was telling something about him, "Daxus over there, the elder goblin has the privileged ability to teach telepathics to gifted individuals."

Glancing back to Kintaro as he finished up the explanation of the different teachings available, "Thats about all that i know for this area... there are other houses around that have specialties, but this is the largest house in the region."

'I haven't the ssslightessst idea why they both wanted me, but it mussst be sssomething pretyy important to kill for it though.' Yama thinks to himself, completely ignorning the conversations around him.

"Oh, the Pathos House is nothing compared to the Lithia House--that's where I was raised," the neko added the fact for Kintaro's sake. "But this House is one of the three largest, probably because of its location in the capital city of the continent. The third being the Mitaji House. The Order of Osayin teaches healing arts to those who would learn. Each House has a speciality within those teachings. Lithia's is advanced healing while Mitaji specializes in defending minds against the forces that would harm them. Pathos' speciality is defending others from harm. It is the duty of the journeymen to travel between the Houses, learning as much as they can and teaching when called to do so. Journeymen don't get called to teach as much as masters do, but what Osayin wills, so be it."



'Who truly understand the wills of women? I think it may have started out as contest to see who won out. Did you know that they had a war going on since they were children in lessons together? Your lovely viper--what the hell--'

Just then screams began as several large figures crashed through the windows into the full room. Energy blasts send several tables sailing backwards into the stone walls. Every master in the room stood up as if preparing. Lania was just a bit quicker than all the rest, despite her rumored age. Even as the dark armored warriors turned towards her wards, she raised her arms and a shimmering wall appeared behind her. Her body language said it all. They would not harm her children. It didn't stop them from heading in that direction after a moment of study.

Misami was quickly to her feet as well. All signs of gentleness was shed now. Her ears had heard the single cry of the little nekomimi child she had brought here not even a fortnight before. Miki was over there.

"Stand down and no one will get hurt," one of the figures commanded, his attention primarily focused on the phoenix healer. Lania's shield simmered like a heat mirage behind her. The normally stoic woman had a fierce expression on her face. The expression was eerily similar to the one currently on several of the masters in the room...and one little nekomimi standing near her spot at the journeymen tables.



"You will not pass," she spat defiantly. Silently, the Order's leaders echoed her words. This affront on the sancity of the House of their God would not be allowed to pass without bloodshed. Her bow was surprisingly loose in her hands while the heavily armored fighters towered over her. Despite the apparent odds, she repeated her words like they were a vow. "You shall not pass."



A few feet away, Ryszard began gathering shadows in the palms of his hand in prepration for the fight he could see coming. 'This may not be home to me, but I can't stand by and let someone ruin this sancuary.' All the confidence that Shiki had instilled in him through the race came upon the teenager again. His shoulders straightened as he brought himself up to his full height, a very considerable sum at over six and a half feet. His dark blue eyes hardened. It was a glimpse of the man that Rys might someday become; This was the future leader of the Kemoni caravan.

Standing behind Liana between her and the shield, Shiki glared at the invaders that had interrupted the meal and demonstration, letting loose a low growl in their general direction he began to eminate a dark aura gathering the shadows to him, 'This will not stand...'

As his shadows formed near him, they were clearly ones that misami would have hoped not to see any time soon, they were ones of pure darkness overflowing with rage... they were the ones he had let loose with the first encounter with Kazuko... ones that instilled a cold fear.

Yama then pulls out the dagger that he picked up from the fight with Zeki, and flings it at him, the dagger turning into a lightning bolt in midair!

"Objective compromised," barked out the one on the other side of the loose circle of mechas. Weapons came up from the standby position they had been in. The previous one who had been in command was struggling to control his machine and was cursing fiercely in some language that was unfamiliar to the group. "Somehow, I don't think that's gonna happen," Misami replied cheekily. Her eyes focused on the second to speak like the cat she was focusing on a mouse. Her hands hung loose at her sides, claws extended. Both her eyes glowed briefly, not the clear bluish-white of when she was healing someone, but an orangish-red. When next she spoke, her words were every bit as determined as Lania's conviction from earlier.

"You won't get the chance to issue an order."

She attacked in a whirlwind of furious claws and raw energy. As her claws slashed the men and machines, they left that same rich orange in their wake. She was a blur of motion amidst a growing sea of it. Acolytes were moving quickly out of the way of the feline torando formed by the outraged little healer and the mysterious neko that had just appeared in the midst of the attackers. In no way did they want to be caught in between the two groups.



"Get the children out of here," Mother Sera commanded her people. Journeymen moved to place themselves in between the giant robotic people and their targets, the near-defenseless wards of the House, as acolytes began ushering the children from the hall. "Daxus, find out why they are here."

"With pleasure, Mother," he replied. He focused on one that was currently not under attack and narrowed his eyes. His lips twisted into a cold smile as a scream filled the air and was cut off suddenly.



"Stand down and no one will get hurt," Lania parroted the command back to the soliders. She focused on maintaining the shield that she had extended to cover the doors leaving the place. Her gaze was just as cold however. Ryszard lagged behind the other acolytes, standing a discreet distance away from Lania. He was ready to act if need be.

Watching the fury of Misami as she leaped to the group of soldiers, 'Well this is interesting... usually she holds back a little but shes running right in there to them.'

"Don't go taking all the fun Misami..." as he hiked down with his shadows and they all rushed the remaining soldiers one to one, each glowing with a green tint to their feet and claws lightly burning with each step they took to their destinations before leaping to them.

As each shadow went to their respective kill, as shiki went right to the middle seeing the lone unscathed soldier, 'He's gonna regret having ticked me off before dinner...' Letting out a howl as he leaped in the air pouncing on the unsuspecting guard with claws pulsating with the eldritch energy.
